Tim Van Horn is the Creator & Host of the My 3 Subs podcast.
The podcast was born out of his love of the game. “Most of our podcast audience are people that have already fallen in love with the game. My hope is that Brodee and I can provide our listeners a weekly reminder of why this sport is so great through useful info and amazing guests. Every person has a story. Funny, inspiring, insightful, and downright incredible…these words are often used to describe the people who come chat with us on the My 3 Subs podcast. “
Tim explains why although he never advanced beyond weekend warrior as a soccer player, he feels the love he does, “As a kid, many of my friends and I didn’t have much access to the game. It was still so new. In fact, it still has a lot of growing to do. If I can help grow the game, it would be a privilege to pay it forward.”
Tim began playing at the tender age of seven. He was inspired by his older brother Van, who played club and high school soccer in Memphis, Tennessee. On a side note, did you ever see Van Van Horn wrestle in the WWE?
After playing his youth league games at Wilson Field every Saturday morning, Tim would rush home to watch “Soccer Made In Germany” on PBS then go watch the Memphis Rogues or Americans play. “I loved watching the pure skill and tenacity of the players. Most of all, you learn to watch for that moment in a match where everything changes. It could be a goal, a big miss, or an injury. It might not happen until the last minute of a match, but I’d still wait for it. I learned that soccer is addictive that way. Forty some odd years later, it still is to me.”
Tim still plays in rec leagues to this day. He has even played in three Football Aid charity matches at the now-closed Upton Park and one match with Chicago Fire and U.S. Men’s National Team alum Frank Klopas at SeatGeek Stadium near Chicago.
In addition to hosting My 3 Subs, Tim hosts a weekday drive-time news-talk show in Memphis, and he is a successful Realtor. Previously, he spent 15 years as a Meteorologist at Memphis’ NBC affiliate. Tim earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from The University of Memphis. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. Additionally, Tim pitched for two seasons for Southwest Tennessee Community College.
Tim is married, and his wife Leslie and he have one daughter. You know he likes to play soccer and podcast, so we think that takes care of his hobbies.
Brodee’s career has grown with a feverish pace from that first moment of “cracking a mic.” Brodee served seventeen years in traditional terrestrial radio as a producer for award winning morning shows, to hosting his own shows, to becoming a program director, creative services director, and digital content coordinator for iHeartMedia in Memphis. This growth in the radio industry fostered insights, skills, and knowledge of the tools needed to put together a professional radio program.
Brodee has since turned his sights to the future of radio, as radio has gone to an “on demand” format. Brodee can now be heard on the My 3 Subs: A Soccer Odyssey podcast and Geek Tank Radio podcast and produces various other podcasts which can be found on all major podcasting networks.
“Brodee brings his knowledge and love of the game to the table. Combined with top-class production abilities, I couldn’t imagine doing such a fun, informative podcast without him!”- Tim Van Horn
